What is the Masakhi’ iSizwe Centre of Excellence?

At the beginning of 2006, the Department of Transport and Public Works of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape established the Masakh’ iSizwe Centre of Excellence with the vision to make available to the province, the country and the continent of Africa cohorts of professionals in engineering and built environment fields critical to the growth of the economy. These professionals will be characterised by excellence in learning, citizenship and service.

Which Bursaries Does the Masakh’ iSizwe Centre Offer?

The Masakhi’ iSizwe Centre of Excellence offers bursaries for study towards a degree or higher diploma in the following disciplines:

  • Architecture.
  • Construction Management.
  • Civil Engineering.
  • Electrical Engineering.
  • Mechanical Engineering.
  • Quantity Surveying.
  • Town and Regional Planning.
What Does the Bursary Cover?
  • During term time the bursaries cover:
  • Tuition fees.
  • All prescribed books and materials.
  • Accommodation and meals (or transport costs).

Bursaries are renewed each year for the duration of the degree, subject to academic performance and fulfilment of the bursary conditions.

Will I Have to Pay or Work Anything Back?

The bursaries are offered on a work-back basis. In other words, you will have to work for the public service for every year of the bursary. During your studies you will also need to:

  • Attend workshops, learning events and meetings organised by the Centre.
  • Undertake academic vacation placements at sites determined by the Centre.
  • Participate in service learning and/or volunteer programmes organised by the Centre.

  • University of Cape Town.
  • University of the Western Cape.
  • University of Stellenbosch.
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Who Can Apply for a Bursary?

To apply for one of these bursaries you must be:

  • A South African citizen.
  • Be accepted at the relevant tertiary institution.

Preference will be given to financially disadvantaged female learners from rural areas of South Africa.

How Do I Apply?

Bursaries are advertised in all leading and community newspapers during September each year. The closing date for applications is 30 September every year. Applications can be faxed or delivered to:

2015 ABSIP Bursary application is now open

The ABSIP Bursary is aimed at financially supporting disadvantaged black students who have demonstrated academic excellence, a passion to pursue a career within financial services industry and be studying at any university in South Africa.

Through partnerships that ABSIP has forged with its corporate and individual members, funding has been secured to cover the university costs of such deserving students. ABSIP would like to thank the Standard Bank Group and all those who have made the initiative possible. We are also excited by the recent sponsorship commitment of Regiments Capital to support ABSIP and the student membership.

The ABSIP Bursary is aimed at financially supporting disadvantaged black students who have demonstrated academic excellence.The ABSIP bursary is only open to disadvantaged black students. The relevant course of study is commercial degree or a related discipline however a course of study that is considered critical or in short supply to the broader South African economy will also be considered. The bursary offers financial assistance based on academic merit and financial need.

Umgeni Water Bursary Scheme 2015

Umgeni Water is committed to support tertiary education in various fields and is offering three (3) bursaries to full time second year UNIVERSITY students pursuing degrees in the fields mentioned below which will benefit the organisation and the water sector. Position Reference No: UWB2015

Key Responsibilities:

What does the Umgeni Water bursary cover?

Tuition and registration fees, prescribed books & stationery, meals and accommodation .Tuition and accommodation fees will be paid directly to the University.

Minimum Qualification, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Number of Bursaries per field of study
  • Civil Engineering x 1 Chemical Engineering x 1 Electrical Engineering x 1

Eligibility

Candidates meeting the following criteria may apply:

  • South African citizens who are residents of KwaZulu-Natal would be given first preference
  • Meet entry requirements for the second year of chosen field (provide proof of academic record)
  • Applicants who are already studying, must have passed all courses for which they are registered at the university for the study period to date (50 % aggregate)
  • Applications must be for full time studies only
  • Demonstrate potential for academic success
  • Short listed candidates will undergo a psychometric assessment and interview
  • Bursaries will be awarded to designated groups or applicants with a financial need
  • Applicant may not receive any other grant for the same qualification without prior written approval
  • A service contract equal to the duration of the bursary
