On Monday, 2 September PlantNation and Afrika Tikkun launched the Regreening Project, a community upliftment programme that brings young people together and puts environmental protection and sustainable development at the centre of youth development.
The launch took place at Afrika Tikkun’s Wings of Life Centre in Diepsloot where the PlantNation team highlighted the importance of the environmental protection and demonstrated the correct methods to plant and cultivate vegetables and trees. By the end of the day the group had planted 80, established 4-year old indigenous trees. This action of planting trees, impactful at local level, is also in line with a larger, global movement to plants billions of trees worldwide in order to revert de-forestation. Increasingly, young people are demanding more concrete action on climate change, as evidenced by the upcoming September 2019 climate strike in cities across the world, including Johannesburg and Cape Town. We support these voices that call for a greener, healthier future where young people can realise their educational and economic potential.
In the words of PlantNation: “We are seeding the revolution one tree at a time”.
